The Basics: Government and Law

A goal of The Missouri Bar is to provide all Missourians with access to ongoing civic education, including students and teachers grades K-16. To that end, this resource provides simple explanations of key concepts regarding the federal and state government, the judiciary, civil and criminal litigation, torts, and contracts.

The 2016-17 Leadership Academy of The Missouri Bar prepared this resource. The Leadership Academy’s mission is to recruit, train and retain Missouri attorneys who have been admitted for ten years or less for leadership positions in The Missouri Bar. For one year, the members work closely with bar leaders to learn more about The Missouri Bar, cultivate leadership skills and develop a public service project.
