St. Louis Mini Law School Spring 2015 Focuses on Grand Juries, Municipal Courts and More

The Missouri Bar, in cooperation with Saint Louis University School of Law, is presenting the spring 2015 session of Mini Law School for the Public, a six-week program to educate the general public about legal issues that impact their everyday lives. In its seventh year in St. Louis, this spring series will tackle legal topics that are at the forefront in the region.

The session will be held from March 18 to April 22 on Wednesday evenings from 7-9 p.m. in Room 1130 at the Saint Louis University School of Law.

Mini Law School for the Public is open to the public and the cost for the six-week lecture series is only $35, which includes all course materials and refreshments at each session.

Blending theory and practice, the classes will focus on how grand juries work, municipal courts, civil rights suits and law enforcement officer use of force. Sessions will also examine the media and the law, unconscious bias and its impact on the law, and how to have your voice heard through board service. Mini Law School for the Public is specifically designed to help non-lawyers better understand the legal framework in our society to receive the full benefit of the law. Each class is taught by distinguished practicing attorneys, judges and law professors.

Unlike traditional law school, there are no tests or homework. No legal knowledge is necessary. The only requirement to attend is a curious mind and a desire to become better informed. At the end of the session, participants will receive a certificate recognizing their completion of the program.

Since 2009, The Missouri Bar has partnered with Saint Louis University School of Law to bring this important legal education opportunity to Missourians. For the first time last year Mini Law School for the Public was expanded to Columbia and Kansas City in cooperation with the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law and the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law.
