Missouri Bar President Reuben Shelton Serves as Keynote Speaker at Saint Louis Public Schools Scholar Athletes Luncheon

More than 500 student-athletes from the Saint Louis Public Schools were honored at the fourth annual Scholar Athlete Luncheon held Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at the Busch Student Center at Saint Louis University. The event, sponsored by the St. Louis Rams, recognized high school athletes who successfully completed the athletic season while maintaining a 3.25 GPA or higher.

Reuben Shelton, president of The Missouri Bar and senior litigation counsel of Monsanto Corporation, gave an inspirational keynote address to student athletes during the luncheon.

In his keynote address, Shelton emphasized to students the impact others can have on your life.

“The people you surround yourselves and associate with will largely determine whether your life will sink or swim,” he said.

Shelton attended Saint Louis Public Schools. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Kansas where he received a scholarship to play basketball for the Jayhawks and was later captain of the team. He became a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.

After his playing days were over, Shelton came back to St. Louis and received a law degree from Saint Louis University and an MBA from Washington University. Today, he is the senior litigation counsel for the Monsanto Corporation where he handles antitrust/intellectual property litigation, international business litigation and global policy matters.
