Mini Law School for the Public Comes to Springfield for the First Time

Springfield area residents can take advantage of a series of “mini law school” courses offered for for the first time in Springfield this fall. The more you know about the laws that affect you, the easier it is to make good decisions about your life, your family and your finances.

The Missouri Bar and the Springfield Metropolitan Bar Foundation are co-sponsoring the Mini Law School for Public – a five week lecture series – that is open to the public. The courses are designed for adults who are not in the legal profession. There’s no need to worry about taking tests to get into this law school and you can forget about hefty tuition. The only requirement to attend this series of lectures is a curious mind and a desire to become better informed. There’s no homework, no tests – just some of the most fascinating lectures you’ll hear from some of Missouri’s most experienced and knowledgeable lawyers.

The five sessions will be held at the Library Center, starting September 22, 2015. The classes are from 7 to 8:45 p.m. every Tuesday evening through October 20, 2015.

Registration is $25 for all five classes and includes course-related materials and refreshments at each session. Space is limited and scholarships are available based on financial need.

Discussions will include civil and criminal law, consumer protections and business law, real and personal property, estate planning, child custody issues and more. Attendees will receive a certificate at the end of the series.

Since 2009, The Missouri Bar has partnered with Missouri law schools, local bar associations and libraries to bring this important legal education opportunity to Missourians. For the first time this year the lecture series is expanded to Springfield thanks to the generous support of the Springfield Metropolitan Bar Foundation. The Mini Law School for the Public lecture series also is available in Mid-Missouri, Kansas City and St. Louis.
