Columbia lawyer Rusty Antel receives service award

The Missouri Bar Young Lawyers’ Section recently honored Columbia lawyer Rusty Antel with a Tom Cochran Community Service Award. Antel, managing partner of Walther, Antel & Stamper P.C., received the recognition during The Missouri Bar’s 2016 Annual Meeting, Sept. 21, at the Lodge of Four Seasons in Lake Ozark.

The Community Service Award is designed to recognize a member of The Missouri Bar whose community service and professionalism have enhanced his or her community. It is named after Thomas D. Cochran (1934-1981), whose commitment and contributions to the practice of law and his community are an inspiration to all lawyers.

Antel is active in a number of professional and community activities, and his service includes work with the Boone County Stepping Up Initiative, a project aimed at evaluating the number of mentally ill individuals who are placed in the Boone County jail system and finding alternative paths for them through the cooperation of community organizations and services.

“You’ve got all these analytical skills that you’ve been given through law school; you can use them in a very real way to help solve real-world problems beyond just your practice of law around the community,” Antel said.
